Telenor Celebrates 25 Years of Digital Progress in Thailand

Bangkok, 1 October 2025 – Telenor Group, a leading telecommunications provider in the Nordics and Asia, celebrates 25 years as a key partner in Thailand’s digital transformation, helping shape a connected future for millions.

To commemorate this milestone, Telenor Group Chairman Jens Petter Olsen, President & CEO Benedicte Schilbred Fasmer, and Head of Telenor Asia Jon Omund Revhaug hosted a celebratory dinner in Bangkok with over 100 guests.

Since entering the Thai market in 2000, Telenor has:

  • Expanded Mobile Accessibility: Brought affordable mobile services to millions of Thai consumers, connecting urban centres with rural communities
  • Pioneered Technology Advancement: Led the introduction of cutting-edge mobile technologies, from 2G to 4G networks, establishing the foundation for Thailand’s digital economy
  • Drove Digital Inclusion: Implemented comprehensive programmes to bridge the digital divide, ensuring equitable access to connectivity services nationwide
  • Fostered Innovation: Invested in nationwide data coverage and continuous upgrades of digital infrastructure, enabling a tech-savvy population

Benedicte Schilbred Fasmer, President and CEO of Telenor Group says: “For 25 years, Telenor has been proud to stand alongside Thailand in its digital journey, connecting millions, empowering communities, and helping build a more inclusive digital society.”

“Telenor started out with a simple, yet bold vision in Thailand. From our early days with dtac to our current partnership with CP Group in True Corporation, we’ve seen firsthand the transformative power of connectivity. As Thailand enters a new era shaped by AI and advanced digital technologies, we remain deeply committed to supporting the country’s ambitions with global telecoms expertise, responsible business practices, and resilient infrastructure.”

Jon Omund Revhaug, Head of Telenor Asia adds: “Our story in Thailand is one of innovation, partnership, and shared ambition. Thanks to the trust of our partners and customers, Telenor has built a strong foundation for digital growth. Today, Thailand is an important market for Telenor, and True Corporation is a significant asset in our global portfolio. With True Corporation, we are ready to meet the fast-evolving needs of Thai people and drive the next chapter of digital transformation together.”

From providing access to basic telecommunications to building the digital infrastructure that underpins modern society, Telenor supports True Corporation in responsibly unlocking growth across 5G, AI, IoT, and cloud technologies. Today, Thailand has one of the highest digital adoption rates in Asia, with Telenor Asia’s Digital Lives Decoded 2025 study reporting that as many as 9 in 10 Thai mobile internet users use AI in their daily life. Rapid 5G adoption and rising enterprise digitalisation present clear future growth potential.

“Against the backdrop of 120 years of diplomatic relations between Norway and Thailand this year, and as we look ahead, we are confident that our continued partnership with Thailand will unlock new opportunities, drive transformative progress, and strengthen the bonds with our customers, stakeholders and society. Together, we will build a stronger, more inclusive digital Thailand, one that thrives for generations to come,” Jon Omund concludes.
